PROJECT

Amazon.com Distribution Facility – Chattanooga, TN

CLIENT

Barge Design Solutions (formerly Barge, Waggoner, Sumner and Connon, Inc.)

Successfully racing the clock as the days got shorter.

SITUATION

“PROJECT ASAP” required quickly preparing a site for a building the size of 17 football fields to attract an Amazon fulfillment center

895,000 yards of material had to be moved in three phases—including more than half a million yards of rock—with cumulative penalties of as much as $30,000 per day if schedules were not met.

SOLUTION

Glover brought a wide range of company-owned heavy equipment and more than 50 employees to complete the job in just a few months

While blasting crews worked around the clock in the fall and winter, teams worked 14-hour shifts in dwindling daylight installing over two miles of pipe for sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and water lines (and sometimes clearing snow), while making sure no residual dust drifted toward a nearby facility.

OUTCOME

  • All three phases were completed well ahead of schedule.
  • No penalties were assessed.
  • Zero days were lost due to accident or injury.

Contract Value: $8.14 million
