Mr. Glover has more than 60 years of grading and construction experience. After serving as a military police officer in the United States Army, he returned to his roots in Northampton County, North Carolina. There, he started his own logging and grading company to assist local landowners in developing their land to meet their timber, pasture, pond and agriculture needs. John’s dedication to completing all projects on time and on budget allowed his business to grow very quickly. In just a few years, John Glover was known as the “go-to” contractor to handle any grading project in northeastern North Carolina and southeastern Virginia. With the addition of bulldozers, draglines, and trucks, the small company quickly grew into a force to be reckoned with in the Tidewater area. Small farm development jobs evolved into jobs such as large dam, airport, golf course, dredge disposal, highway, site development, and eventually landfill construction projects.
In 1975, John incorporated his company in the state of North Carolina. He continued to innovate by constructing the first subtitle D Landfill in North Carolina and Virginia, after the design criteria was created in 1996. This experience, coupled with large highway and site development projects, helped John build a company with the largest fleet of oversized heavy construction equipment in the state of North Carolina. The addition of a trucking division and a specialized equipment manufacturing division allow Glover Construction Co., Inc. to handle difficult projects throughout the Southeast. Such accomplishments are impressive, yet John believes his greatest success has been mentoring and building a team of dedicated employees. Most of Glover Construction’s superintendents have been with the company for over 20 years, and many of the staff are second and third generation Glover employees. All employees follow the patriarch’s ideals of ethically completing every project and building long-term relationships with every client.
Though he is over 80 years old, Mr. Glover still oversees every aspect of the business planning, equipment purchasing, bidding process, and management of all senior staff. He is either at the office or at a job site, everyday ensuring that the company is upholding his high standards of quality, efficiency, and ethical operation.
